Discriminatiom and abuse against people withdisabilities is an old age phenomenon affectingalmost every nation. Policy interventions andawareness campaigns by national governments, humanrights groups and the United Nations, thoughsuccessful to a certain extent, have not eliminatedthe stigma and prejudice against disabled people.Their cries to be recognized as human beings havebeen heard but unheeded. Cultural beliefs thatassociate disability with abnormality have pusheddisabled people out of the mainstream society, anddespite good intentions for the recognition of theirrights, they continue to encounter social barriersas a result of cultural stereotypes and prejudice. This book which is based on a research studyconducted in Windhoek,Namibia, provides an insightintoincidents and forms of discrimination and abuseagainst disabled people. The book is a suitablereference material for social workers, human rightsgroups, researchers, lawyers, education institutionsand specialized United Nations agencies.

Colonel F.M. Maiba, MA: Studied Security and Strategic Studies at the University of Namibia. He has wide experience in public policy making, as well as experience in bilateral and multilateral affairs. He is currently the Head of the Division International Cooperation in the Ministry of Defence.
