I live only 2 hours away from the town that the authored featured in many of the stories within this book. While the veracity of some of the stories may be challenged, The area he chronicled still exists today and has not changed much since his telling. The stories provides a glimpse into the hardships, everyday activities and mindsets of the true pioneers that lived manifest destiny.

First person history...genuine, raw, rich...a genuine treasure documenting real life in South central and South West New Mexico in late 1800's through early 1900's. Rich, rare, compelling.

The stories in this book are very unique to southern New Mexico and are enjoyed by students as well as adults .

I have been riding the some of the Black range, and this book is great in that it talks about the places I have been. Wonderfully easy to read and great insight to the early days of New Mexico history.

Captivating stories that take place mostly in Southwestern New Mexico, where I live.

Super book, really worth the read. I have an original and bought this one for my sister in AZ. The stories are true, interesting, entertaining.
