I can't believe no one has reviewed this book yet - it's amazing!!! Though this book would be engaging for kids through grade school, my 3-year old daughter got it at the library and loved having it read to her and loved looking at the beautiful illustrations. We had to buy it because she kept wanted to check it out from the library. She has been a dinosaur enthusiast since the age of 2 and Stegosaur is her favorite dinosaur. We have been SO extremely frustrated by the dumb-downed, repetitive and shallow information about dinosaurs in most of the kids' dino books we find. This book (and Graphic Dinosaur series) is a welcome exception! This was the first and only place we have seen the word 'thagomizer' presented (the name for the spikes on the end of the Stegosaur's tail) - and my daughter has been talking about thagomizers ever since! There is a range of ways information is presented, much of it in 'comic book/ graphic novel' form, with engaging and beautiful illustrations. Children are smart, and if they are interested in a subject, they are ready to learn new words, new information - however complex - so thank you Gary Jeffrey for believing that kids are smart enough to understand dinosaurs (even when they're 3)!Now that my daughter is 3.5 and even more into dinosaurs, I decided to order a bunch of the books in the Graphic Dinosaurs series. They are not all by Gary Jeffrey's, but the illustration style looks similar. We are eagerly awaiting the delivery of our new books. I will try to post reviews there. The Graphic Dinosaur Series includes: Allosaurus, Elasmosaurus, Gigantosaurus, Diplococus, Velociraptor, Triceratops, Pteranodon and more. Some are quite expensive ($26.), so I'm holding off on those or ordering them used.Just a note to parents with dino-loving kids - we've also enjoy Dr. Robert Bakker's books. He's a real paleontologist with a flare for words - really makes stories accessible and fun for kids. His books are probably best for kids 5 through grade school, but our 3.5 year old daughter loves to listen to parts of the story. "Raptor Pack" is an early reader/ chapter book tells the story of raptors hunting, then explains how paleontologists (Bob Bakker!) discovered the first raptor claw and how they piece together the appearance and behavior of a dinosaur based on fossil evidence. He's done a few other books too.Raptor Pack (Step into Reading)And a note to parents who have GIRLS who love dinosaurs. We just found a book called "Stone Girl, Bone Girl". It's the real life story of Anna Madding who was a impoverished girl (c.1799) living in England who discovered many fossils and the first complete fossil skeleton of an Ichthyosaurus! Why aren't there more dino books for girls!? [[ASIN:1845077008 Stone Girl Bone Girl: The Story of Mary Anning]
